When Dar's Clan women are unable to conceive children, or even carry them to term, he reaches his wit's end. He takes the responsibility of leaving his Clan for a while in search of help. If he can't find someone to help their women, the Clan will die out in no time. As a Trux, Dar has the ability to shift into a Snowcat. When Dar discovers Luna, he realizes that even though her past actions have damned her from being a darkmage, she just happens to be his mate.Luna has the incredible magical gift of being able to help women become fertile. Not only that, but she also happens to be able to tell when a woman is ovulating and tell whether a man is able to sire a child. It is these powers that make her so important to Dar's Clan.
Luna soon realizes she cannot fight her feelings to Dar and returns with him to his home with the Snowcats.
I honestly didn't get anything much from this story. I felt like I was being pulled in ten different directions at times. The dialogue, to me, left a lot to be desired. I'm not sure what effect Mima wanted to have with ALPHA WITHIN, but I was left empty. The characters seemed to all blend into one another and I really didn't find them to be memorable at all. The dialogue seemed to change non-stop. It was like a mish-mash of different dialects to me. Sometimes almost like a group of teenagers bashing the English language, and at other times, it seemed to just drift. There were quite a few characters in this story, and it very much detracted from the storyline. The woman I thought was playing the part of the heroine wasn't, which I discovered out much later. Dar and Luna couldn't capture and hold my interest for any length of time. I think the problem I really had with this story is that there was just so much going on. It made it really hard to concentrate on the main story. Too much thrown into the basket with not enough emphasis on the main storyline.
